Capture ideas in notes.
Stories are committed work. Notes are the thinking that comes before. An idea for a feature you're not sure about, a design question you want to sleep on, a decision with rationale worth preserving. Notes live in .story/notes and show up in the Mac app alongside the board.

Follow along

Open the notes panel
In the Mac app, press the Notes button in the sidebar. You'll see any existing notes with their tags.

Create a note
Click +. Give it a title and write freely in markdown. Tag it with short labels like idea, decision, spike, followup. Tags make notes filterable later.

Link to a story or leave it free
If a note relates to a story, include its ID in the note content so the next reader can follow it. Use tags to group related ideas. Notes can also stand on their own.

Promote to a story later
When a note earns its keep and becomes real work, ask Claude Code: "turn note N-004 into a story in phase 3." Claude reads the note, drafts a story with title, description, and acceptance criteria, and leaves the original note linked for history.
